Captain Marvel v1 #27 Trapped on Titan!
We begin the issue “Trapped on Titan!” with Rick Jones held prisoner by two of Thanos’ monsters.
Because of a power Thanos has over him, Jones is unable to retrieve Captain Marvel from the Negative Zone.
Thanos orders his goons to lead Rick Jones to the “Mind Cyclone”. Using this machine, Thanos hopes to extract a vital piece of information from the mind of Jones.
The mind of Rick Jones is linked up to the super computer Isaac (Integral Synaptic Anti Anionic Computer). Issac is a computer “so large it fills almost the entire interior of Titan.”
Using Isaac, Thanos is able to extract and play back the recent past of Rick Jones and Captain Marvel.
Thanos strives to delve within the subconscious of Rick Jones to discover a piece of information Jones does not even know that he possesses. He is looking for the location of “the most powerful weapon ever created – The Cosmic Cube!”
Upon learning where on Earth the Cosmic Cube is located, Thanos leaves Super Skrull in command of Titan. Super Skrull is given Thanos’ Unisphere as an aide to defeating an attack by The Destroyer or any of the original Titans should they return.
Thanos teleports himself to Earth to retrieve the Cosmic Cube.
Meanwhile, in his prison cell, Rick Jones meets Mentor, father of Thanos and Eros, Thanos’s brother. They call themselves “The Free, Fighting True Army of Titan.
When Mentor and Eros show Rick Jones the destruction caused by Thanos on their planet, it surges such a strong emotional response that he is able to bring forth his alter ego Captain Marvel.
Thanos Goes to retrieve the Cosmic Cube
Thanos and his cloaked accomplice arrive on Earth outside a cave where the weapon that he seeks is located. They venture into the depths of the caverns until Thanos locates the light of the Cosmic Cube.
Thanos declares “No being born of a woman can stop me!”
But within the cave a being is waiting who claims to be not born of a woman nor of man. Between Thanos and the Cosmic Cube is Drax the Destroyer.
Lou-Ann Meets the Avengers
At Avengers headquarters, an unknown woman arrives at the front door. She is carrying the identity card of Rick Jones.
As Captain America meets her at the entrance she falls into his arms declaring that Rick Jones is in Danger. She mentions Thanos as she passes out.
The Free, Fighting True Army of Titan
Back on Titan, Mentor, Eros and Mar-Vell plan to storm the hall of science in Thanos’ absence.
Mar-Vell enquires about the number of troops that fight for the Free, Fighting True Army of Titan. To which Eros replies, it now numbers three!
As they approach the facility, a soldier of Thanos declares that they are under arrest for treason. To which Mentos retorts, “I created this world – I sired your ‘Emperor’”
Mentor sends out a blast of energy that dispels the guards.
Mentor sends Captain Marvel to destroy the recordings of his mind that Thanos took while he and Eros act as guards.
Captain Marvel breaks into the room to find Super Skrull viewing the details of the Cosmic Cube from Rick Jones’ mind.
The recordings show the moment when Rick Jones was at the point of death. This is when the Supreme Intelligence brought forth the entity Captain Marvel to join Rick Jones as one being.
The Supreme Being then inserted the location of the Cosmic Cube into the unconscious of Rick Jones to be held in case of a Universal Doomsday.
Using the powers of the Fantastic Four, Super Skrull attacks Mar-Vell as Mister Fantastic, then as The Human Torch.
As the rage builds within Captain Marvel, he whacks Super Skrull into the recording machine which explodes and Thanos’ army flee.
In a last effort to defeat Captain Marvel, Super Skrull reaches for the Globe given to him by Thanos. He soon discovers the Globe is a powerless fake. Thanos had fooled him.
Mentor sends Mar-vell back to earth to continue his fight against Thanos while Mentor and Eros remain on Titan defending their planet.
Mar-Vell arrives on the roof of the Avengers Mansion where he is greeted by Black Panther.
Black Panther leads Captain Marvel into the HQ where he is confronted by Lou-Ann in a state of near death.
