Moondragon has had a long and storied career. She is a powerful telepath and telekinetic. She is also the daughter of Arthur Douglas, now known as the hero Drax.

She once owned the Mind Gem, which is one of the six Infinity Gems. Even though Moondragon is known for being a loner, she has frequently been part of super hero teams.

Major Story Arcs

Heather Douglas

Heather was born on Earth and was an only child. Her parents passed away following an attack by the villain Thanos (her father would later be reincarnated as Drax the Destroyer).

She was later discovered by Mentor, and Eternal from Saturn’s moon of Titan. Mentor brought Heather to Titan to be raised. She was trained by Shao-Lom Monks to utilise her mental powers. Heather soon became equal or superior to many Titans in battle.

Unknown to her at the time, Heather was secretly being influenced by the Dragon of the Moon. The cosmic being used her arrogance to lead her to believe that she was superior to others.

Moondragon has always had a bit of a superiority complex, even without that influence.

There are many instances of her talking down to her teammates, which has made her less popular than other heroes. This is also part of what makes her a very interesting character.

She has also had repeated involvements with Adam Warlock throughout her hero career.

Madame Macevil

Heather is first introduced as a minor villain named “Madame MacEvil” in Iron Man #54 (January 1973).

In the issue, she starts a battle between Iron Man and Namor the Sub-Mariner. Nothing is mentioned about her history in this issue.

She is never again referred to as “Madame MacEvil” after that. Her appearance is exactly the same when she becomes an Avenger. The only difference being that her costume has changed colours from red to green.

There is also no mention made in this issue about Heather’s mental powers. She displays no abilities and is just seen as a criminal plotter.

Avengers & Defenders

Heather joined the Avengers not long after returning to Earth. During one conflict with Captain Marvel and the Avengers, Adam Warlock and Thanos are killed.

She later conquered the alien world of Ba-Bani and mentally controlled the Avengers. She used her mental capabilities to rule the planet’s inhabitants.

The Avengers arrived to confront her, and Heather killed her father Drax during the skirmish with a mind-wipe attack. Soon after this, she gave up the attack and surrendered, with her mental powers having diminished.

Heather later joined the Defenders. During her tenure with the team, she briefly helped team member Hellcat develop some her own mental powers and taught the young hero some Titan martial arts.

She stayed on with the team after the original members departed, although the Dragon of the Moon continued to control her. His dominance eventually led to the demise of the entire team.

Resurrection

Moondragon was revived by the Titan computer ISAAC. The machine created her a new body to occupy, and for a while she traveled through space with her cousin Sundragon.

She also traveled briefly with the cosmic adventurer Quasar, in the hopes of becoming his mate.

She was unsuccessful in this attempt, and went off on her own for a while. Moondragon was later found by Adam Warlock on an aging spaceship whose oxygen levels were about to be depleted.

Warlock offered her a position on his Infinity Watch team, alongside her resurrected, but mentally impaired, father Drax the Destroyer.

Infinity Watch

Moondragon joined the Infinity Watch alongside other powerful heroes who were each designated an Infinity Gem to guard.

Other members of the Watch include: Drax the Destroyer, Pip the Troll, Gamora, Maxam, Thanos and Adam Warlock.

One of Moondragon’s first assignments after joining the Infinity Watch was guarding the Mind Gem. This powerful gem boosted her already formidable mental capabilities.

She went out to test those abilities after the group members went off in separate directions.

She soon encountered the Silver Surfer, and sought to help him find his home planet of Zenn-La. The planet had been taken by the entity known as the Great One.

The powerful being put Zenn-La and several other massive planets in his mind. Moondragon used her mental powers to persuade the Great One to release all of the planets he had captured.

The members of the Infinity Watch finally agreed to work together after the Man Beast tried to pit the team members against one another.

This cooperation was later broken up by the Goddess, who gathered heroes from around the universe via mind control in an attempt to join her cause during the Infinity Crusade.

The Goddess appointed Moondragon to High Priestess of the Holy Guard. Moondragon was later freed of the Goddess’ control and was upset at the concept of being manipulated and controlled by another being.

Annihilation War

Thanos easily defeated Phylla-Vell and kidnapped Moondragon during the first Annihilation conflict. He wanted Moondragon to use her mental powers to understand his temporary teammate Annihilus.

Thanos was unable to do more than what he had already done to assist his companion from the Negative Zone.

Thanos was preparing to free the Silver Surfer and Galactus after capturing them from Annihilus when Drax the Destroyer returned. Drax was trying to fulfill his promis of killing his old rival.

Moondragon attempted to interfere but her efforts were in vain. Drax succeeded in slaying Thanos, but the father and daughter still managed to free Galactus. This effort helped to boost the resistance’s effort in the Annihilation War.

Annihilation Conquest

Following the Annihilation Conquest, Phyla and Moondragon traveled to fringe colonies belonging to the Kree to provide assistance to the troops.

Their aid and blossoming romance were soon interrupted by the second Annihilation War.

During this conflict, the pair were assigned to seek out someone who would save the Kree Empire. This savior turned out to be a once again reborn Adam Warlock.

Moondragon learned during this conflict that she was able to turn into an actual dragon. While this greatly increased her physical strength, it also meant that she was unable to return to human form.

This put a considerable strain on her relationship with Phyla, although the two managed to work through the problem.

Shortly after becoming a dragon, Moondragon is killed during by Ultron during a battle against him and members of the alien race the Phalanx.

She died defending her partner Phyla, who managed to see her one last time before the war came to an end.

Guardians Of The Galaxy

The Guardians came to learn after a Skrull invasion of their home base of Knowhere that Mantis had been asked by Peter Quill to utilize her mind control power on her fellow teammates to make them perform more cohesively as a unit.

Upon hearing this, Drax and Quasar set off to find the Earth girl Cammi, who had gone missing during the Annihilation War. During their quest, they found Moondragon, who was alive and well.

This discovery brought the heroes to Moondragon’s father figure Mentor, who promptly killed them on the spot.
