Poison Ivy is a villain from DC comics. She normally is an adversary of Batman, but she also fights against other DC heroes from time to time. Poison Ivy is an eco-terrorist.

She has the ability to control plants and plant-based organic matter. Poison Ivy first debuted in the DC universe in 1966 in Batman 181. Robert Kanigher and Sheldon Moldoff created this DC character.

Who is Poison Ivy?

Pamela Lilian Isley was a botanist before she became Poison Ivy. She is also known as Lilian Rose.

As Poison Ivy, Pamela became one of the central villians from the Rougues Gallery and a major foe of Batman.

Ivy has been a leading member of several organisations within Gotham City including the Suicide Squad, the Injustice League, the Gotham City Sirens, the Secret Society of Super-Villains and the Injustice Gang.

Poison Ivy doesn’t just possess bio powers, her abilities to seduce and manipulate men through her sexual powers had improved dramatically since her transformation.

Poison Ivy is known to work her seductive feminine charms over the males she encounters. She also is a die-hard protector of the environment. She makes it a point to protect it at all costs.

Ivy has spent most of her life imprisoned within Arkham Asylum for the criminally insane. Despite her incarceration, she is also able to hold down a position within S.T.A.R. Labs.

Poison Ivy’s Powers and Abilities

These are the powers and abilities that Poison Ivy possesses.

Chlorokenisis:

Ivy has a special ability that is called “the Green”. The Green allows Ivy to connect with plant life. The Green allows her to do things such as control trees, move branches, manipulate vines, tunnel through the Earth, and grab objects.

Pheromone Control:

We previously mentioned Ivy’s seductive charms. What you might not know about her seductive powers is that she uses pheromones to help augment this ability. The pheromones combined with Poison Ivy’s natural beauty makes her nearly hard to deny. Men (and some women) have fallen prey to her seductive charms.

Toxikinesis:

Poison Ivy has the ability to send toxins through her skin. She can use it to drug people by kissing or touching them. This is one reason why she uses her seductive charm. The toxins she can produce within her body include drugs, mild sedatives, or even powerful poisons. Don’t forget that the toxins don’t harm Ivy and that she can create any type that she likes.

Toxic Immunity:

Ivy has immunity to all toxins, bacteria, and viruses. So, nothing poisonous to the human body can harm her.

Skin Pigment Manipulation:

Poison Ivy can change the colour of her skin. The toxins turned her skin light green, but she can control her pigmentation to make it her normal white colour. Poison Ivy is a white woman with orange or red-coloured hair. Altering her pigmentation gives her different and unique looks.

Botany:

Poison Ivy’s extreme knowledge of plants allows her to effectively use her powers to control plants.

Toxicology:

She uses this ability to create very toxins, traps, and manipulative powers against her enemies.

Seduction:

Ivy’s seductive powers keep surfacing for a reason. When she was Pamela Isley she never played into her looks. However, once she became Poison Ivy, her seductive powers grew tremendously. Now she uses them to accomplish her will.

Hand-to-Hand Combat:

While Ivy isn’t the greatest fighter in the DC universe, she can handle her own. She has limited martial arts ability, she is a strong and fast swimmer, and she is a good climber and leaper.

Origins of Poison Ivy

Poison Ivy’s backstory is a little confusing because there is more than one version. In the DC Comics universe, there are two phases.

Pre-Crisis took place from the time the DC universe started in 1934 and ended in 1986.

From 1986 until the present time, this is known as Post Crisis.

The whole pre and post-crisis divisions reimagine the DC universe. In other words, the Post-Crisis era reintroduces (or updates) the DC characters to give them a different look, feel, and to make them more relevant to modern times.

Poison Ivy has 2 backstories. Technically, she has more. However, we’ll focus on the primary 2 that are used for her character.

(Pre-Crisis)

Dr Lillian Rose, PhD began as a botanist with a promising career.

She was smitten by Marc LeGrand and became his fiancé. Isely was so in love with Legrand that she helped him to steal an Egyptian artefact containing special herbs.

Legrand realized that he could into big trouble for the theft so, he decided to eliminate her by giving her the ancient Egyptian herbs. Legrand carried out his dastardly deed, but it did not work.

The herbs did not kill Isley. The herbs transformed her into a super-human with the ability to control plant life and to be immune to poisons.

Unfortunately, there were side effects to this substance. The herbs drove her insane and turned the normal Dr Isley into the evil seductress known as Poison Ivy.

(Post Crisis)

In the Pre-Crisis version, she was betrayed by her fiancé Marc Legrand. In the Post Crisis version, Poison Ivy worked for Jason Woodrue.

Since Ivy was a beautiful woman, Woodrue wanted her badly. He pursued her. Ivy rejected his advances, but she wasn’t totally dismissive of Jason Woodrue.

Professor Woodrue was also performing illegal experiments. Ivy found out about them. He then asked her to join him, but she rejected his offer. Woodrue became outraged and threw her into a shelf that contained dangerous poisons.

Woodrue left Ivy for dead. However, she survived the incident and became an enraged female set on the destruction of men and any other people who get in her way.

Ivy has been known to harm boyfriends by using her powers to destroy to nearly kill them. She once nearly killed a boyfriend by having plants overtake his car causing him to crash.

She also decided to unleash poison spores into the air of Gotham City unless her demands were met. Following this event, Pamela Lillian Isley became known as Poison Ivy.

The Poison Tomorrow

Poison Ivy was thrown in jail after taking on Batman a few times. He eventually overcame her and her placed inside of Arkham.

Ivy remained in jail for some time but was eventually broken out by a villain named Bane. She joined up with some villainous organizations such as The Grip and the Deadfellows.

Ivy primarily used her powers to manipulate rich men and stole their money. She was successful for a while until Batman stopped her once again.

Injustice Gang and Harley Quinn

Poison Ivy battled against the Justice League with the Injustice Gang of the World. She also joined the Secret Society of Super-Villains. Poison Ivy became good friends with Harley Quinn.

She wanted her to get away from Joker and tried to help her. The two villainous females became good friends as a result of their relationship.

Suicide Squad

Poison Ivy also became a member of the Suicide Squad. She took on some dangerous missions with this squad.

Still, Ivy couldn’t stop being evil-minded and wanted to continue her quest by killing the people of Gotham with poisonous spores. Once again Batman stopped her but Poison Ivy never stops trying.
