Who is Asajj Ventress?

Among other things, Asajj Ventress was a slave, a Jedi Padawan, a Nightsister, a Sith assassin and a bounty hunter. Born during the final decades of the Galactic Republic, she began her life as part of a clan of Force-sensitive witches called Nightsisters led by Mother Talzin on the planet Dathomir.

When she was quite young, a criminal, Hal’Sted, forced her sisters to give him Ventress. He then took the girl to the war-torn world of Rattatak, where she was raised to be a slave in his service.

When Hal’Sted was killed by Weequay pirates, Ventress was found by the Jedi knight Ky Narec, who was stranded on the planet and fighting the pirate marauders.

After a decade spent helping the people of Rattatak, Narec was killed by the pirates, leaving an enraged Ventress without a mentor and she soon turned to the dark side of the Force.

After time spent deposing local warlords and ruling in their stead, Ventress was captured while attempting to assassinate a warlord named Kirske, who forced her to become a gladiator in his arena.

She was eventually discovered by the Sith Lord, Count Dooku, who made her his apprentice.

Who took Asajj Ventress as a baby?

In 50 BBY according to the Star Wars timeline, Asajj Ventress was born on the planet Dathomir. Though the Galactic Republic was the preeminent power in the galaxy at the time, the planet of her birth was outside of its territory and was ruled by the Nightsisters.

A clan of witches, the Nightsisters used the Force to manipulate nature and control their male counterparts, the Nightbrothers.

Ventress’ mother belonged to a coven controlled by Mother Talzin, a powerful spell caster and former associate of the Sith Order. While Ventress was still in her infancy, Talzin’s clan came under threat from the Siniteen criminal Hal’Sted.

To guarantee the safety of her people, Talzin had the girl’s mother surrender Ventress to Hal’Sted, who took the child back to the war-torn world of Rattatak as his slave. During the years she spent with him, Ventress found him to be a surprisingly kind master.

Did Ventress become a Jedi?

By 39 BBY, a Mandalorian, Meitch Krakko, had already heard about Ventress turning into “quite the warrior”. Unfortunately, these skills couldn’t save her master Hal’Sted, who was killed during an assault by WeeQuay raiders.

Ventress would probably have died grieving her fallen master if not for the arrival of a Jedi knight named Ky Narec whose starship had crashed, stranding him on Rattatak. When the Jedi was ambushed by a Weequay raider, Ventress was able to use the force to throw the attacker into the air, saving Narec.

Sensing her connection to the force, and despite being cut off from the rest of the Jedi Order, Narec took the child into his care and began to train her as his Padawan.

Together, master and apprentice became heroes to the people of Rattatak, ending wars and uniting rival armies. However, stories of her powers to move objects and influence others with her mind concerned other warlords who, led by Osika Kirske, banded together to kill the Padawan and her mentor.

They succeeded in this task with Narec but failed to kill Ventress who, suffering from the loss of her mentor and still undisciplined in the ways of the Force, started on a path to the dark side.

Who was Asajj Ventress’ master?

In 23 BBY, after meeting with the Sith lord on Rattatak, Ventress pledged herself to Count Dooku at his palace on the planet Serenno. She made the promise to serve at his side in exchange for an education in the ways of the dark side of the Force.

Impressed by her strength, Dooku taught her novel and brutal combat methods using lightsabers. She would go on to wield two red bladed ones in battle, a style of combat for which she became quite renowned.

One of her responsibilities as Dooku’s apprentice was a role commanding the newly established Confederacy of Independent Systems, the Sith lord’s anti-Republic separatist movement.

In this role, she fought for the Confederacy on the battlefields of the Clone Wars. Her ruthlessness in fighting the clone armies of the Republic and Jedi Order at the time earned her a fearsome reputation.

Why did Dooku betray Ventress?

Asajj Ventress lead a space battle against the forces of the Republic under the command of Jedi General Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Sullust system.

Ventress singled out Kenobi and attacked, damaging his fighter in the process. Her ship was then disabled by Skywalker, with all three combatants crashing into the hanger of a Separatist flagship.

Unknown to Ventress, there was a conspiracy brewing to take her life. Darth Sidious, concerned about her growing power, orders his disciple Count Dooku to destroy her before she becomes too strong to handle, a plan that the Sith lord is reluctantly forced to go along with.

When Ventress calls on him for help, Dooku abandons her, claiming his betrayal is the result of her own supposed failure. Shaken and angry, Ventress proceeds to engage both Skywalker and Kenobi in combat.

Their fight is interrupted by Dooku’s order to bombard the flagship by other Confederate forces to ensure that Ventress won’t survive. Nonetheless, she and those she was fighting managed to escape this fate.

In the aftermath, Dooku informs Darth Sidious that his apprentice is dead and the Sith lord is satisfied that his minion’s loyalty to him is still intact.

Who kills Asajj Ventress?

The death of Asajj Ventress has some similarities to that of Darth Vader 20 years later. Both were lost souls who turned away from the dark side at the end of their lives, ensuring that their last acts were selfless ones.

Ventress met her end in the novel “Dark Disciple” by Christie Golden, which is part of the in canon “Clone Wars Legacy” project, which included unused scripts and unfinished episodes of The Clone Wars.

The novel paired her with another Force user, Quinlan Vos, a Jedi Master not afraid to flirt with the dark side. The two grow close to each other in the book, starting as allies before becoming partners and mutual teachers on the road to becoming lovers.

It seemed for a time that Ventress had seduced Vos to the dark side by making the argument that he would never be able to defeat Dooku without the abilities she can teach him.

When she and Vos finally do face Dooku in battle, Ventress, who has fallen in love with the Jedi, throws herself in front of a force lightning attack to save him, sacrificing her own life in the process.
