Captain Marvel
Captain Marvel in Marvel Comics
The trademark Captain Marvel was gained in the late 1960s following a dispute with DC Comics.
Marvel has been publishing a Captain Marvel every few years in order to retain the trademark.
Mar-Vell
Gene Colan and Roy Thomas wrote and created the first Captain Marvel story, which appeared in Marvel Super-Heroes #12, December 1967. The character, Captain Mar-Vell, is a military officer of the Kree Imperial Militia sent to observe the developing space technology on Planet Earth.
Mar-vell, branded a traitor, allies himself with Earth, whom He defends from all threats after learning of the intent of his superiors.
Gil Kane and Roy Thomas revamp the character after he was exiled by supreme intelligence to the Negative Zone. The only way of escaping the Negative Zone is by Mar-vell agreeing to exchange atoms with a human, Rick Jones, using special wristbands called Nega-Bands.
Captain Marvel is enhanced with some superpowers. He is given a new uniform that is customized with form-fitting costume instead of the military uniform.
Jim Starlin revamped the character freeing Mar-Vell from the Negative Zone as the “Protector of the Universe”.
The Cosmic entity Eon appoints Mar-Vell to protect and defend the universe. Rick and Mar-Vell battle Thanos and other galactic threats.
Elysius becomes Mar-Vell’s lover after he has become an ally of the Titans. However, his career is curtailed by cancer from an earlier battle with Nitro, where he was exposed to toxic nerve gas.
Mar-Vell succumbed to his death in the company of the Superhero community. His death was published in the year 1982 as ‘The Death of Captain Marvel’.

Kree and the Skrulls tried to infiltrate Kennedy Space Center, but thwarted by Carol Danvers as a NASA security officer.
Danvers was exposed to Pysche-Magnitron, a device that could turn imaginations into reality. Having envied the powers of Mar-vell, Carol’s DNA was rewritten by the machine to make her have similar abilities to Mar-vell.
Carol fought side by side with the Avengers and Mar-Vell. Her career, however, was to be short-lived as she was attacked and had her memories and powers drained permanently by a member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.
After several years had passed, she eventually recovered from this ordeal and achieved her long-term dream of exploring space. Danvers took on the codename Binary after she had become cosmically empowered.
Carol was left with her original abilities after the binary powers faded off, prompting her return to Earth, where she joined the Avengers. She took the name Captain Marvel after the passing of her mentor and friend. She has become prominent, and Captain Marvel is now a popular Heroine.

Having this information, Carol refused her Vers Persona. After unlocking her powers, she defeated the Kree invasion under Ronan the Accuser.
She then vanished off to the far reaches of the Galaxy to continue the work of her late mentor Mar-Vell. In taking on the role she named herself Captain Marvel in his honour.
Avengers: Endgame
