Who is Darth Maul

Darth Maul is a force-sensitive Sith Lord in the Star Wars universe. His appearance presents him as a young, Zabrak male with red and black tattoos on his face.

Maul sports a double-bladed lightsaber which he was trained to use in combat as a Sith warrior. Trained by the Sith to be a living weapon, Maul is one of the deadliest warriors in the history of the Order.

He is the apprentice for Darth Sidious from the prequels trilogy. In the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series, he turns away from his Sith masters to build his own empire, The Crimson Dawn. During this time he received a set of cybernetic legs following his battle in The Phantom Menace.

Darth Maul First Appearance in Star Wars

He was first introduced as a villain in 1999’s Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace where he led a raid against Queen Amidala and her Jedi protectors in an effort to capture the queen.

He went after her apprentice, Qui-Gon Jinn and his apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Anakin Skywalker, happened upon them during their duel and tried to help but was stopped by a toxic dart from Maul’s weapon that caused him to pass out. After a while, Ani got back on his feet and fought Maul until he was struck down once again.

When the queen was taken by the Sith, Maul remained in the palace to fight Obi-Wan. He was ultimately defeated when Anakin attacked him with a blast to the chest from his lightsaber.

Darth Maul and Obi-Wan duelled for a few moments but were stopped when Kenobi stated that Qui-Gon had left word that they should not kill Maul without first giving an order. Maul was taken to the Jedi Temple and held in a cell.

While in captivity, Maul repeatedly attempted to kill Obi-Wan but failed every time. Kenobi had his lightsaber confiscated for a short period of time. During the time that Anakin was training with Yoda, Obi-Wan found out that his master, Qui-Gon is still alive.

He battled Maul one last time before escaping on the ship to Tatooine where he found Qui-Gon. There, they discovered that Anakin was the Chosen One and that he would bring balance to the Force if he stayed away from the dark side.

The Jedi Council had a meeting about this matter because they believe that Anakin is too old to be trained. Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon went to explain the matter to Palpatine but were captured by Maul’s forces and brought before the Sith Lord. He took their lightsabers after killing Qui-Gon and brought them back before the Jedi Council.

When Anakin was about to become a full Jedi, Maul arrived on Coruscant with the intention of killing him along with Obi-Wan. They tried to fight him off but it wasn’t until he was struck in the chest by Kenobi’s lightsaber did he stop fighting.

What Is Darth Maul’s Real Name?

Darth is a title that is given to the Sith lords in The Star Wars universe and Maul was given the name after he passed the trials to become an apprentice and later on be granted the rank of Darth.

Maul’s real name is unknown but it is believed that it was taken from a Mandalorian word that means heartless. It can also mean vicious or treacherous in Mando’a, which perfectly describes Maul’s personality.

Darth Maul belongs to the Zabrak race and is a native of Iridonia is from Iridonia which is an isolated planet located at the centre of The Star Wars galaxy.

Why Was Darth Maul in the Movie ‘Solo’?

The comic series Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir, completes the story of Darth Maul between The Phantom Menace and Solo: A Star Wars Story.

In Solo, we are introduced to kingpin Dryden Vos who runs the criminal syndicate the Crimson Dawn. In the final scenes of the movie, we learn that Dryden Vos answers to Maul.

Qi’ra is trapped in the underworld having been raised by the gangster Lady Proxima. Qi’ra chooses to join Maul in his criminal underworld on Dathomir over returning with Han Solo.

Originally, Darth Maul was not part of the Solo movie. But since the film was delayed due to other production problems, they needed something to hold their own.

It is believed that they needed a character from the original trilogy or a major character from any of the films and Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader was already used in The Force Awakens.

Depicting the early life of Han Solo helped tie it to other movies in the Star Wars universe but producers felt that they needed something more. So Kathleen Kennedy decided to add Maul into the film after consulting with Rian Johnson (director of Episode VIII ).

Did Kenobi Kill Darth Maul?

Yes, Obi-Wan Kenobi does eventually kill Darth Maul but not in the Star Wars movie, The Phantom Menace.

Obi-Wan Kenobi initially tried to convince Darth Maul to join him but he refused.

Obi-Wan got the better of Maul by hurtling up from the shaft and severing Darth Maul in two. We see Darth Maul fall down the shaft having been cut in two separate pieces.

Maul survived The Phantom Menace battle and asks Sidious to make him powerful so he can kill Kenobi and take his revenge on him.

Sidious agrees and tells Maul that he needs to survive a certain amount of time before becoming powerful enough to kill Kenobi.

The final battle of Darth Maul occurs in Star Wars Rebels when he once again meets his Jedi nemesis. Obi-Wan and Maul reunite on the iconic sand planet, Tatooine and engage in a duel to the death.

In this final battle, Obi-Wan Kenobi quickly defeated Maul.

How did Kenobi kill Maul so easily in Star Wars Rebels?

By the time of the final battle between Darth Maul and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Maul was no longer the agile fighter he once was. Having been reconstructed as half cyborg after his battle in The Phantom Menace, his ability to fight had been decreased.

Obi-Wan understood that Maul had become emotionally unstable, meaning he was more prone to making a catastrophic mistake.

Obi-Wan followed the same moves Qui-Gon Jinn did during their original battle in The Phantom Menace. This tricked Maul into repeating the same parry as before.

Having learned from the mistake of his master, Obi-Wan pivoted and struck Maul with a fatal blow.

What episode does Kenobi kill Maul?

Obi-Wan Kenobi finally kills Maul in season three, episode thirteen f the animated television series Star Wars Rebels’. The episode titled “Twin Suns” aired on March 18, 2017, on Disney XD.

How Many Jedi Did Darth Maul Kill?

1. Siolo Ur Manka

Siolo is one of the Jedi who has been killed by Darth Maul. Being a heavy hitter and a master in the Force, he was against Maul’s betrayal. However, Siolo was thought to be dead after his death at the hands of Darth Maul.

2. Asajj Ventress

Darth Maul killed Asajj Ventress when she decided to betray him as she felt that Obi-Wan Kenobi was more powerful than he was. She felt that Maul could not handle him alone and thus betrayed him by double-crossing him and leaving him behind for Obi-Wan Kenobi to kill.

3. Anoon Bondara

A few years after the battle of Geonosis, Anoon Bondara was killed by Darth Maul along with many other Jedi who had defected from the Republic. The Jedi Order did not take this lightly and hunted down every single one of those that betrayed them. They were eventually granted amnesty because of their previous allegiance to the Republic but this did not mean that they were out of danger as they still faced death and chaos at the hands of Palpatine’s Empire.

4. Saesee Tiin

Saesee Tiin is another Jedi who has been killed by Maul during a battle against Obi-Wan Kenobi. Originally a member of the Jedi Order on Ossus, he was stationed at Kiros and was in charge of protecting an ancient repository of knowledge known as the Holocron.

The Holocron was entrusted to him because it contained knowledge that could have saved the Jedi from death during the battle of Naboo had they known about it. However, they were unaware of its existence for many years and so their numbers dwindled down until only a few remained.

This is probably when Obi-Wan and Maul encountered each other once again at Ruusan during the last days of the war.

5. Adi Gallia

Adi Gallia was a member of the Jedi Council who was killed by Darth Maul beneath Theed when he went to rescue his master Darth Sidious from suffering defeat at the hands of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn.

6. Qui-Gon Jinn

Qui-Gon Jinn was a Jedi master who met a tragic end at the hands of Darth Maul. When Darth Sidious came to Naboo in order to kill Queen Amidala, he killed Qui-Gon Jinn and Padmé Amidala before Anakin Skywalker could save them. This was a major turning point for the series.

7. Grohto

Grohto was a Jedi General in command of the 20th Sector Army who was killed by Darth Maul in the Phantom Menace. He was the leader of the Loyalists who fought against the Separatists during the Battle of Coruscant which later led to his death.

8. Bruu Jun Fan

Bruu Jun Fan was personally trained by Yoda who was a Jedi Master at that time. He trained him to become a Jedi Knight and took him on as his Padawan after he became one. Maul killed Bruu Jun Fan during the battle of Naboo when he confronted him in order to gain revenge on Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn.

9. Ko Solok

Ko Solok was an important leader in the Twi’lek resistance against the Separatists during the war. He was killed by Darth Maul on Mustafar when he refused to surrender and fight against him.

10. Finn Ertay

Finn Ertay was a Zabrak Jedi who became one of the last members of the Jedi Order. He later died at the hands of Darth Maul during the battle on Naboo.

11. Roron Corobb

Roron Corobb was an Admiral in the Republic Navy who was sent to aid Obi-Wan Kenobi on Naboo in his fight against Maul. He however did not survive the fight as he was killed when he fell into a gorge while duelling with Darth Maul.

12. Sian Jeisel

Sian Jeisel was a Jedi Master who had a brief encounter with Darth Maul during the battle of Sullust where she was killed by him within minutes and thus brought an end to her life.

13. Kav Bayons

Kav Bayons was a Mandalorian Jedi who was killed by Darth Maul during the Battle of Malastare where his final moments were recorded in an image by a photographer.

14. Bant Eerin

Bant Eerin was a Jedi Master who had prior knowledge of Darth Maul’s return and trained a group of Padawans in the hopes that they will be saved from death at the hands of the Sith Lord. However, he was killed by Darth Maul in the process despite showing resistance to him.
